The XM is BMW's most powerful road car ever made, and also its most controversial. What is beyond debate is that at 2,785 kg, every gram of unsprung mass reduction pays dividends. The BMW XM runs a plug-in hybrid system combining a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor for a combined 748 hp in Label Red spec. Its factory cast wheels weigh roughly 16-17 kg each, and they look exactly like what they are: mass-produced compromises. A set of bespoke forged wheels changes the car's visual weight distribution entirely, pulling attention to the contact patches where it belongs.
The Bete Noire Ver1.9 is a twin-spoke arrangement with alternating depths that create visual tension. Each spoke is CNC-machined from a single billet of 6061-T6 forged aluminium, with tolerances measured in hundredths of a millimetre. The result is a wheel that is both lighter and stronger than any cast equivalent -- the kind of engineering that reveals itself in the details when you look closely, and in the driving dynamics when you stop looking at the wheel altogether.
| Bolt pattern | 5x112 |
| Recommended diameter | 22" or 23" |
| Width range | 10.5J front / 11.5J rear (staggered setup recommended) |
| Offset range | ET25 -- ET40 |
| Centre bore | 66.6 mm |
| Material | 6061-T6 forged aluminium |
| Weight | ~30% lighter than equivalent cast wheel |
The physics are straightforward: reduce the mass that your suspension has to manage, and everything improves. Ride quality gets better because the dampers respond to the road instead of fighting inertia. Braking distances shorten because the rotational inertia of each wheel drops significantly. The car feels more planted, more controlled, more connected.
The Bete Noire Ver1.9 is part of Hodoor's AI wheel design programme. The system generates thousands of unique wheel concepts, each one engineered to be manufacturable as a forged monoblock. You are not choosing from a static catalogue -- the AI produces designs tuned to a specific car's dimensions, brake clearances, and visual character. The design phase is free. You only pay when a concept moves into production.
If none of the AI-generated options match what you are after, our in-house designer works from hand sketches or reference images. Either route leads to the same CNC-machined 6061-T6 billet, the same quality control process, and the same four-to-eight-week production timeline.
Will lighter wheels affect the XM's hybrid system performance?
Positively. Lower unsprung mass reduces energy wasted accelerating and decelerating the wheels, marginally improving both the V8's fuel economy and the electric motor's range contribution.
Are 23-inch wheels too large for the XM?
Not at all. The XM was designed from the factory to wear up to 23" wheels. Forged wheels at 23" will actually weigh less than the stock cast 22" options.
Do these clear the XM's massive front brakes?
Yes. Both 22" and 23" diameters provide adequate clearance for the M Compound brake system, including the optional carbon-ceramic discs.
