The Mansory Speedometer Top Panel is one of the most overlooked yet most functionally important carbon parts in the Gronos cabin programme for the new Mercedes-Benz G-Class W465. It is the small, sculpted carbon hood that sits directly above the driver's digital instrument cluster — the dashboard-top eyebrow that shades the cluster glass. On a vehicle where MBUX moves the entire driver display behind a single glass surface, glare and reflection across that surface is no longer a cosmetic complaint: it is a daily readability problem in low-sun conditions. This panel is the part Mansory builds to solve exactly that problem, and to do it in visible carbon that matches the rest of the Gronos cabin trim.
The Speedometer Panel mounts on the dashboard upper plane, immediately above the digital cluster pod and forward of the windshield base. It is the rearmost-visible carbon surface on the dashboard top from the driver's eye position — the piece your eyes pass over every time you glance from the road to the speedo. Its leading edge follows the curvature of the cluster pod hood; its trailing edge meets the windshield base seal. On the W465 layout, this region sits roughly 480–520 mm forward of the steering-wheel rim, well within peripheral view and within direct line of any low-angle solar glare entering the cabin.
Unlike decorative carbon trim elsewhere in the cabin, the speedometer hood lives in a glare-critical zone. Mansory therefore specifies a non-mirror, anti-reflective surface for the inside-rim face — the underside that you, the driver, see reflected in the cluster glass at low sun angles. Two finish options are offered, and both are tuned to the same target: minimum 92% visible-light absorption on the inside-rim as measured under the Mansory in-house spec.
Whichever option is chosen, both finishes pass the 92%-absorption threshold on the inside-rim — the surface that matters for cluster legibility. The outside-top surface, which the driver does not directly see, can be specified in higher-gloss visible weave on request, or kept consistent with the inside-rim finish for a unified appearance.
Construction is the same prepreg standard used across the Gronos cabin programme:
The result is a panel that holds its shape and finish across the full thermal range a parked W465 will see — from sub-zero winter starts to mid-summer cabin soak above 70°C — without distortion, lacquer micro-cracking, or weave shift.
The panel is moulded specifically to the W465 dashboard topography. The W465 dashboard is not a carry-over from the W463A: the cluster-pod geometry is taller, the windshield base seal is repositioned, and the central column for ADAS sensors (camera, rain/light sensor housing) is set further forward. The Mansory Speedometer Panel respects each of these:
The panel is fitted as a non-destructive overlay, suitable for full reversibility if a future owner wants to revert to factory dashboard skin:
Two practical benefits show up immediately the first morning you drive after fitment:
An optional alcantara underside finish is available on request, where the inside-rim is wrapped in genuine perforated alcantara instead of matt-clear carbon. Alcantara absorbs even more light at acute angles and adds a tactile element that owners who specify alcantara across the rest of the cabin tend to prefer for a unified upper-cabin material story.
The matt or satin clear finish on the panel is not the same as a high-gloss exterior carbon clear, and it must not be treated like one. Follow the panel-specific care routine:
The Speedometer Panel is one element of the larger Mansory Gronos cabin carbon set for the W465. It is designed to colour-match and finish-match the door-card carbon inserts, the centre-console carbon trim, and the steering-wheel carbon segments when those are also specified in the matt or satin clear finish. Owners ordering the full cabin set typically lock all carbon trim to one finish family — most commonly satin clear — so the visual story across the cabin is consistent, and the anti-glare requirement of this particular panel is satisfied without finish mismatch.
It pairs visually with the dashboard-skin carbon strip and the passenger-side dashboard insert, both of which are separately available within the parent kit. Specified together, the three pieces present the dashboard top as a single sculpted carbon plane bracketing the central display.
The Speedometer Panel is supplied as a finish-to-order part. Specify cabin-trim finish (matt clear / satin clear / alcantara underside), confirm VIN for W465 dashboard variant, and lock the order:
The panel ships protected in conformal foam with a finish-matched care card. Available individually or alongside the parent Mansory G-Class W465 Gronos kit.
No. The W465 head-up display projection cone exits the dashboard well forward of the cluster pod and reflects off the windshield interior surface. The Speedometer Panel sits behind that exit aperture and does not enter the projection path. HUD function is unchanged.
No. The panel footprint is engineered to remain behind the forward-camera and rain/light-sensor housing band on the W465 dashboard. Forward-collision, lane-keep, and rain-sensor functions retain their full original field of view. Independent visual confirmation is included in the fitment instructions.
A trim-experienced technician fits the panel in 25–40 minutes including dashboard surface prep with isopropyl alcohol, VHB 5952 application, factory clip engagement at the leading edge, and bond cure-tack hold. Initial bond strength is reached in 20 minutes; the vehicle can be driven the same day.
Standard finishes (matt clear or satin clear) ship in 4–6 weeks from order confirmation. Alcantara-underside specification adds approximately 2 weeks for the trim wrap. Air freight options are available on request for time-critical builds.
Yes. The VHB 5952 perimeter bond is releasable using a thin nylon cord and isopropyl alcohol; factory clip points are unmodified. The dashboard skin underneath is left intact, and the panel can be cleanly removed without scarring the OEM substrate.
